So there was this guy who invited me to have lunch and I accepted. I had liked our conversations about his life as a musician…Juilliard trained and according to his stories very successful. When he arrived his car and his clothes said otherwise, but I figured that that was just an artistic style given his charm, intelligence and demeanor. The afternoon was full of rich stories about his life on the stage and on the road. His online dating had taken him to Italy, Spain, Mongolia and finally China. These trips, he explained, he had wanted to take anyway. We parted with a hug and a quiet acknowledgement that we both had enjoyed the meeting. He didn’t say anything about meeting again, but I sensed that he wanted to.
It was no surprise and when I saw an email from him the next day. The content was all surprise. He liked me well enough to want to be honest. I wondered if he lied to women he didn’t like. He began. He was married. He had married a woman from China. He couldn’t stand to look at her anymore and all she wanted to do was pinch his bottom.
He supported three condos for her family in China and sent $50.00 a month to each family member. Considering the condition of his car and his clothes, it must have been a big family. He apologized and said that meeting women was a sort of social life for him.
He then added, unabashedly and without further apology, that he would like to meet again. I told him I was thinking of a trip to France.
